Test Coverage
This exam focuses on recognizing language patterns, which aren't necessarily in English. Tasks may involve deciphering alien languages, spotting odd words, matching synonyms, manipulating letters to create new words, deducing logical connections, and assessing conditional statements. A rich vocabulary, encompassing spelling and meaning, often makes verbal reasoning more manageable for individuals compared to those with narrower vocabularies.
In narrative writing, your child's ability to craft a story relevant to the prompt and effectively communicate it will be evaluated. This requires more than simply recalling grammar rules; they must use grammar effectively to tell a story that progresses logically, with a clear beginning, main event, and conclusion.
In persuasive writing, selecting a clear stance and persuading the reader to agree with it are essential. While basic grammar and spelling skills are assumed, the focus is on how well they can articulate their arguments while adhering to the given genre and prompt.
Students are tasked with engaging with a range of media, spanning from non-fiction materials such as interviews and articles to fictional narratives. Subsequently, they are required to respond to questions pertaining to the presented texts.
Quantitative is akin to numerical reasoning, focusing on solving problems involving numbers. Your child may encounter tasks such as identifying patterns in number sequences or selecting appropriate numbers to complete a sequence. There can be questions from a wide array of reasoning topics spanning coding, decoding, logical arrangements, speed-distance-time, symbol-based logic and many more.
The most challenging of all papers, though the stated level required for this paper is grade 8, the child must be ready to be tested on the depth and application of core topics with extended knowledge. Topics will cover areas in algebra, geometry, statistics, data interpretations, probability, consumer maths and much more.
